INTRODUCING THE FOOTBALL STAFF KEVIN McGARRY Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Backs LARRY CAUDILLO Offensive Coordinator and Running Backs
Larry begins his 13th year on the USD football staff. He will be returning to the offensive coordi- nator position after four years as special teams coordinator. In ad- dition to his on the field duties, Larry is responsible for all equip- ment purchases and supervision of equipment personnel. In the spring, Larry is the women's softball coach at USD. Larry is also an alumnus of USD and played both football and baseball in the early 1970's. TIM ODER Defensive Line
Kevin begins his 10th season on the USD staff. This will be his 6th as the defensive coordinator. In addition to his on the field duties, Kevin is also responsible for re- cruiting and is the liaison for the Alumni Club. Kevin was a standout player at
USD as well. He was the co-defensive player of the year in 1977. He also is a graduate of USD's School of Education with a Master's degree in Educational Administration. RICK TRESTRAIL
Quarterbacks and Receivers
Tim returns for his 2nd season on the USD defensive staff. He will move to the defensive line after one year as the linebacker coach. After graduating from NAU, Tim gained coaching experience at Huntington Beach H.S., Saddle- back J.C. and Cypress C.C. Tim is presently on the faculty
This season will be Rick's 3rd year on the USD football staff. He moves to the offensive side of the football after two years as the de- fensive line coach. Prior to coming to USD, Rick was the head coach at Kent Meridian High School in Washington (1983-84), and at
Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco (1980-82). He is a graduate of Cal Poly Pomona where he was a standout in both football and track. GEORGE HARTMAN Linebackers
and head track coach at Fallbrook High School. Named the 1987 CIF Honor Coach in track, Tim's 4-year track record is 28-5 with two league championships. DAVE SMOLA Offensive Line
We are very fortunate to add George to our staff this year. George is returning to active coach- ing after a few years off. George was the founder and builder of an outstanding football program at Saddleback C.C. in Orange County where he is still a member of the faculty.
Dave begins his first year as the Toreros offensive line coach. Dave is returning to USD to enter our graduate program in the School of Education.
Dave played two years at USD as an offensive line (1984-85) and graduated last year with his B.A. degree in History. He gained coach- ing experience last year as J.V. Defensive Coordinator for University High School.
His record at Saddleback was 58-10-4. Prior to Saddleback, George was the head coach at El Segundo High School. He is an outstanding addition to our staff.

Mike begins his 4th year as a part-time coach. He will assist Coach Trestrail with the receivers. Mike was a standout player for the Toreros between 1980-83 and holds all three career receiving records. Mike graduated from USD in 1983 with a degree in Accounting.
