Resolution of Intent for Middle Grades Career-Technical Education

Ohio Revised Code Section 3313.90(A) requires a board of education not providing career- technical education for grades 7 and 8 to adopt annually a resolution declaring its intent not to provide such training programs. A template of this resolution is available on the BASA home page under Hot Topics. The instructions for filing this resolution through your SAFE account can be found here: http://education.ohio.gov/getattachment/Topics/Career- Tech/CTE-Middle-Grade-Programming/MS-Waiver-Instructions-6-28-16.pdf.aspx. The annual deadline for filing such a resolution is September 30.

Required Compliance Certification for Foods and Beverages Sold at School

Ohio law requires each school district board of education to adopt and enforce nutrition standards governing the types of food and beverages available for purchase on school premises. Please note that schools are required to report compliance annually to the Ohio Department of Education and submit the report by Friday, Sept. 30. Download report here:

Calamity Day Reminder If your district is contemplating either on-line lessons or blizzard bags as an option for instructional time lost due to weather conditions next school year, you are reminded that your Board does need to pass its resolution soon so that you can forward it to the Ohio Department of Education prior to August 1. The section of law covering this option is at ORC 3313.482.

All state winners will be celebrated at AASA’s NCE in part of our 30th anniversary of the Superintendent of the Year Program. If you have any questions about the ring you may contact her as follows: 800-451-3304, ext. 401201 or gegiliard@herffjones.com 2017 AASA National Superintendent of the Year Application Information and Procedure The AASA National Superintendent of the Year program, sponsored by Aramark, VALIC and AASA, The School Superintendents Association, pays tribute to the talent and vision of the men and women who lead the nation’s public school . Eligibility Any superintendent, chancellor or top leader of a school system in the United States who plans to continue in the profession may be nominated. This program is designed to recognize the outstanding leadership of active, front-line superintendents. It is not recognition of service at retirement or a program to reward current state or national leaders. Selection Criteria Each ca didate is judged n the following criteria: • Leadership for Learning – creativity in successfully meeting the needs of students in his or her school system. • Communication – strength in both personal and organizational communication. • Professionalism – constant improvement of administrative knowledge and skills, while providing professional development opportunities and motivation to others on the education team. • Community Involvement – active participation in local community activities and an understanding of regional, national, and international issues. Nomination / Application Procedure • Each candidate for the National Superintendent of the Year Award must first be named by their state association as the Sate Superintendent of the Year. • The nominator must include a letter of nomination with the application submitted online at soy.aasa.org . • AASA notifies the candidate of the nomination and provides instructions for submitting the application. • Candidates submit the application online through the AASA website, soy.aasa.org . • Completed nominations must be received online at AASA by August 1 • The deadline for completed applications for State Superintendent varies by state. • Completed nominations from State Associations are received online at AASA by November 1. • Completed applications for the National Superintendent of the Year Award must be received online at AASA by November 1. Selection Process  Each applicant must contact his or her state association to inquire about the selection process, and application deadlines. Timelines vary from state to state.  To be eligible for National Superintendent of the Year, an applicant must first be selected as a State Superintendent of the Year by the state association of school administrators. • A national blue-ribbon panel of judges selects four finalists for AASA National Superintendent of the Year from among the eligible State Superintendents of the Year. Superintendent Licensure Program

University of Dayton/BASA Superintendent Licensure Program - Cohort The UD/BASA Superintendent Licensure Program-Cohort is a unique collaborative program designed to maximize the professional expertise and resource base for superintendents from BASA and the approved licensure program and demanding curriculum of the University of Dayton. The program will provide a cohort of Ohio educators with a convenient, rigorous, practice-based program leading to an Ohio license as a superintendent. Up to 25 Ohio educators will be admitted into the program by the University of Dayton. The cohort group will complete the University of Dayton’s approved program Leading to Licensure as an Ohio Superintendent Instruction of the coursework will be provided by University of Dayton faculty, R. Kirk Hamilton, Executive Director of BASA; David Axner, Deputy Executive Director of BASA and Jerry Klenke, CEO/ President of the Ohio School Leadership Foundation.
