of the upcoming winter. The squirrels are busy gathering every nut they can find, The Canada geese are teaching their young how to fly in a V formation and here and there is just a touch of color in some of the trees. Even though summer is our down season, we have still met almost once every month. We are seriously looking to upgrade our groomer. Our old one has been faithful and has seen many miles and memories for our groomer operators but the time is now. This means extensive grant writing and hours of dealing with banks and groomer dealers, try- ing to find the right fit for our club and field- ing questions from our members. (Thank you Judy and Roland, job well done) We have in the last 2 months been holding a gun raffle. Drawing to be held in the near future. Our vice president, Erwin Jackson, has once again proved he is an extra special mem- ber of our club and has sold more tickets than any of the rest of us together. The St. Francis four wheeler club (Northern Ridge Riders) has done extensive work and widening on their trails this summer. Since our trails sometimes coincide this can only benefit this winter’s snowmobile riders. Soooo, with wider trails and a newer groomer to keep those trails in tip top shape, why wouldn’t you plan to come north this winter. The rumors are true, our trails are something you have to experience in person and while you’re at it, stop in and say hi to us at the St. Francis SnoAngels lodge. We’ll Dear Members, What a nice summer we have had! I hope you have been well and had a chance to enjoy our summer. Covid-19 continues to affect our club’s activities as well as all associations and organizations. We continue to do the best that we can. The crew is utilizing our new Ranger and getting some mowing, bridge repair and machine maintenance accomplished. Many hours have been spent getting machines ready for summer and winter riders. Remember that a lot of hours are spent on phone calls and grant paperwork too, in order to keep up with the state requirements. We all know that landowners are also an important part of the operation, without them there is no trail sys- tem. They continue to be so generous to our club. If you have a few hours to spare, get in touch with Mickey at 764-1236 to help out with some of the chores! We are tentatively planning a huge tag sale and a family ATV event for September. Please watch Facebook and the local newspaper for specifics. You will also receive a calendar of events with your membership app later in August. Our app will now serve as a 12-month mem- bership for either ATV or snowmobile and is available on Facebook. Thanks go to Chris- tina for managing this for us. So much to do and so many wonderful people that volunteer to help! But I have to say, we can always use more help!! Take care and I’ll see you at the ATV event or the tag sale! Sue Maynard Secretary PORTAGE LAKERS sc Portage Lake, ME Hello fellow snowmobile enthusiasts! It’s getting to be that time of year again when we are gearing up for a busy season. The Portage Lakers have bridges to resurface, trails to brush, snow to groom (hopefully!), and pies to sell, but first things first. We are getting ready for another family fun filled day of grass drag racing coming up on Septem- leave the porch light on. For additional infor- mation pertaining to the race classes, please check out the website http://bigwoodsdrags. com/class-specific-rules/. This event includes many of our local area nonprofit organizations who sell their items to do a little fund raising of their own. Come visit us at our booth, we have raffle tickets to sell, sweatshirts, hats, membership forms, and smiling faces to greet you. We hope to see all of you there to support our sport! In other news, as always, we are looking for new members and volunteers to join our club. Many hands make light work, and we always try to have fun doing our projects. If we didn’t make it fun, we wouldn’t get any- thing accomplished. We have a new line up for officers this year. Josh Spooner-President, Bruce Laveway-Vice President, Tammy (Curran) Kenney-Secretary, and Jennifer Buckingham is holding steady as Treasurer and Membership Chair. We are all looking forward to a great season, with lots of snow, great trails, and are so excited to be able to host some events to make up for the last year. Keep an eye out for your memberships to arrive; Jen will be getting those sent out before we know it. If you would like to join PLSC before you receive your membership applica- tion, please contact us at portagelakersmem- bership@gmail.com or visit portagelakers.org to join ($15 for an Associate Membership, $30 for a Family Membership, or $50 for a Busi- ness Membership). We are looking forward to another wonder- ful season of awesome trails and safe riding. ~Tammy Kenney MOLUNKUS VALLEY SNO-DRIFTERS Sherman, ME Good day to all our fellow friends! We hope everyone has enjoyed their sum- mer! Myself I don’t like the humidity and the darn ole heat which kept pulling it out! Any- how, I survived and as I sit and write this blurb it’s 75 degrees out there with a breeze. We @ MVSD have been busy getting landowner per- missions and yes some have said to me, “Are you ok? It’s only 90 degrees out.” Lol! We all need a little chuckle! Now it’s time to get the trails ready and that we are working on as we strive to have the best trails even though most of ours are swamp and hills but we are county strong and get er done ! We are looking forward to another great season and a healthy and happy one for us all. You can watch our MVSD facebook page to follow what’s going on or trail conditions. The 1st meeting and pot luck will be October 2nd supper @ 5pm with regular meeting @ 6pm. We are selling the MSA Super Raffle tick- ets. See any member to get yours or @ the local store and the Stacyville Town Office. We also have our Dec. Club Raffle going on and are only selling 100 tickets ! You can’t win if you don’t play. On a sad note our neighboring club Benedicta Snow Gang lost a very Special Lady & Friend to many Carolyn Splan. Thoughts and Prayers go out to Jim & His Family. Til next time Keep ON KEEPING ON!!! With the changing of seasons, thoughts turn to cooler weather activities. We, the members of the Central Aroostook Snowmobile Club, invite you to join us as we plan for another year out on the trails. How fortunate we are to live in such a beautiful corner of the world and as you snowmobilers know, there is no better way to enjoy the beauty of winter than by snowmobile. The Central Aroostook Snowmobile Club is responsible for about 75 miles of trail. Count- less manpower hours are spent cutting and removing brush from the trails, maintaining bridges, putting in field marker stakes and hanging signs. Then there are more volunteer hours put in grooming the trails themselves and maintaining the equipment needed to do that job. This is done by a handful of volun- teers. If you are already one of these volun- teers, THANKYOU, THANKYOU, THANK YOU! If you would be interested in becoming one of these volunteers, or if you just want to find out what is happening with the club, please come to our next meeting. The Central Aroostook Snowmobile Clubs 1st Monthly Meeting this season is being held on Friday September 10 th , 2021 At the Club House Meeting will start at 6:30pm. Hope to see you there! EASTERN REGION As warm as it has been lately, it sure is hard to mentally start getting into snowmobile sea- son, but here at the Paul Bunyan Snowmobile Club we have already started brainstorming and planning for the coming season! At our final meeting of last season, we voted on club officers, welcoming some new officers, and, happily, keeping some existing officers in place. Our new president is Paul Phillips with Casey Taylor working as vice president. Our treasurer is Sheila Morrissey with Brian Nevells still helping out as backup to Sheila. Our secretary is Jen Fournier and our trail master is David Morrissey with Mike Runnells assisting. Safety officer duties are being taken care of by Chris Cookson and membership tracking and growth are being tackled by Jeff Monk. After having an overall very successful sea- son last winter, despite the lack of snow and short season, we are all excited to keep the momentum going moving forward! Last sea- son we were able to replace and upgrade many of our bridges in preparation for our new, larger, grooming equipment, which we hope to have up and running this season. It’s always a challenge to keep trails open, especially when your trail system runs directly through a city, so we feel very fortunate to have the trail sys- tem we have in the Queen City! Last season we were also able to update our trail map with a fresh GPS plotting of the system, so we are excited to get that map published and into rid- er’s hands! Going forward into the coming season we are already planning our trail prep, bush hog- ging, and cleanup. We got an early start on all of that last year which worked out really well, so we are hoping to do the same this year. That being said, we’d LOVE any and all help from local riders and members with trail work this fall. Many hands make light work and spare 4x4 ATV’s to pull our bush hogs help out too (we’ll cover your fuel)!! We’re also hoping to organize a cleanup day at our clubhouse/sled shed and extra hands to help with that would be fantastic as well! We are excited to start selling super raffle tickets, and we’ve started the brainstorming process for a vintage sled ride this season, which we have missed hosting the past several years, so stay tuned for updates on that, as well as other exciting things in the works!
