1862 – The Civil War Enters Year Two

I would like to take this time to remind you that our history was written with our countyman's blood on our doorsteps and in the fields of Tennessee and throughout our great nation. Most of the fighting took place in the states of Virginia and Tennessee, but The Civil War was fought in thousands of different places, from southern Pennsylvania to Texas; from New Mexico to the Florida coast. The Civil War was also fought on the Atlantic Ocean as far off as the coast of France, the Gulf of Mexico, and the muddy waters of the Mississippi River and its tributaries. Somewhere close to you is a museum or park dedicated to the American Civil War, please take the time to visit some of these historic sites. Walk in the footsteps of these brave men that fought and gave their all. Remember, or learn why and how this changed America for what it is today. No other time in our county's short history was as deadly to Americans, as this time was. So many gave all they had for a cause they believed in and died for. The victors write the history, but both sides made it happen, right or wrong, they still gave their all. Their sacrifices gives us all the freedoms, we enjoy today. Please, thank a service man or woman for their service, either past or present. Most thought the war would be over by now and they would be back home with family and friends. The war has yet to show Americans how cruel and deadly it will become.
