Weinam Creek Priority Development Area (PDA)

1 May 2016: Request for Proposal stage continues The Weinam Creek PDA project is in the Request for Proposal stage. Council agreed to extend the Request for Proposal period for Weinam Creek at a Special Meeting of Council on 17 December 2014, and again on 27 April 2016, in consultation with project partner the State Government. This was in order to give Walker Group more time to work on its final design concept for Weinam Creek and financial offer after being named the successful participant in the EOI campaign held from 19 June to 28 July 2014. The Weinam Creek PDA project remains a priority for both Council and the State as it will provide significant upgrades to community infrastructure and economic growth and new jobs. In December 2015, Walker Group presented several high-level design concepts to Councillors to gain their feedback on options for the ferry terminal and potential new marina. It is anticipated that Walker Group will submit its final Request for Proposal documents mid-2016 and then Council and the State will assess it. Once the Request for Proposal phase is completed by 1 August 2016, there will still be a lot of work to be done before the Weinam Creek PDA project has the green light to proceed. Following a period of commercial negotiations and detailed design work, Walker Group will need to apply for any necessary development and environmental approvals from the State and Federal Governments and Council.

18 September 2014: Preferred development partner selected Cleveland and Redland Bay residents are a step closer to vibrant waterfront developments and new jobs after the State Government and Redland City Council today announced Walker Group as the preferred partner to develop Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek. Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Jeff Seeney today joined with Redland City Mayor Karen Williams and Walker Group Executive Chair Lang Walker to announce the Walker Group as the preferred partner for both Priority Development Areas at Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek. The Walker Group were selected from eight expressions of interest with a reputation for producing exciting projects that maintain the values of the community, the importance of the environment and the significance of cultural heritage, while generating considerable economic return for the local area. There is no detailed design for either site – that will be worked through with the Walker Group and key stakeholders but final design will reflect the needs of the community as outlined during the original consultation phase. The next step of the process is for a detailed design to be developed that matches the final development scheme.
