Hiking the Faroe Islands JOURNEY TO EUROPE’S BEST-KEPT SECRET

The Faroes are remote, stunning, and ideal for our hiking adventure. In this archipelago that was once a vital link in the Viking route from Norway to Iceland, we’ll hike ridge trails to fishing villages and to spectacular seacliffs where seabirds nest in the thousands. As we walk and explore, we’ll visit local homes, see how renowned Faroese wool

to Mykines Island, where we walk through its solitary, turf-roofed village and hike across moorlands to teeming colonies of Atlantic puffins. Days 3-4 Vestmanna Cliffs / Eysturoy Island / Hike Slaettaratindur We boat beneath the thousand-foot-high cliffs at Vestmanna to see fantastic seabird colonies—and daring sheep that graze on near-vertical grassy patches along the cliff. On Eysturoy, we meet a local artist at her studio, then hike right from our charming lodge in a historic village to a sweeping panorama across the Faroes’ dramatic sea stacks. Days 5-6 Bordoy and Vidoy Islands / Snaeldan Wool Mill On Bordoy, we visit the oldest brewery in the Faroes, and on Vidoy, our hike offers breathtaking views across five islands. At a traditional mill where weavers use age-old skills in wool carding and yarn making, we’ll see how the island’s famous woolen goods are made. One evening, we join a celebration dinner complete with Faroese dancing and song. Days 7-8 Tórshavn In Tórshavn, named after the Viking god of thunder, we explore the Old Town, with its turf-roofed buildings, and enjoy dinner in a family home with ingredients fresh from the farm, accompanied by local Faroese schnapps. Depart on Day 8 via Sørvágur.
