1992-93 NCAA Tournament Team In the 1992-93 women 's basketball season , the Toreros made their inau– gural run into the NCAA Tournament. The Toreros posted a 16-12 overall record and a 8-6 record in the West Coast Conference, good for a second place finish . The Toreros opened the season with three straight losses, but bounced back winning nine of their next 11 games including a season long six-game win streak. USO would open conference play with three straight wins against Saint Mary's, San Francisco and Portland which caught the attention of the conference. USO would not suffer a losing streak for the remainder of the season to finish in second place behind Santa Clara, to whom the Toreros dropped two games to during the regular season. USO would then run the table in the wee Tournament and pull off a huge upset against heavily favored Santa Clara defeating the Broncos 64-57 to earn their first trip to the "Big Dance". USO would fall in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to the Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska 81-58.

1999-2000 NCAA Tournament Team In the 1999-2000 season the Toreros experienced one of the programs best seasons in USO history. The Toreros finished the season with a 17-13 overall record , matching a USO record for most wins in a season , and posted a 7-7 record in West Coast Conference play earning them a fourth seed in the wee Tournament. The Toreros opened the tournament with a hard fought 65-62 win against Loyola Marymount in the first round , then upset No. 3 seed and host Santa Clara 61-56. Next stop for USO was the championship round with top-seeded Pepperdine. With the score knotted at 45-45 and nine min– utes remaining , USO put together a 15-2 run to pull ahead. But Pepperdine would come back to pull within three, but could come no closer lifting the Toreros into their second NCAA Tournament appearance. The 15th-seeded Toreros would fall in the first round to the No. 2 seed University of Notre Dame by a final of 87-61.
