P.A.S.S. Police Against Senior Scams Montgomery County and Christiansburg Law Enforcement are partnering together to inform and educate area senior citizens of the current scams in and around the New River Valley that specifically target senior citizens through phone, internet, and the mail. The goal of the program is to educate senior citizens on how to recognize when a scam is taking place and encourage them to notify local law enforcement when they get any communication or request they feel may be a scam. Council The Christiansburg & Montgomery County Council is seeking active adults 50+ to become involved in helping their community by participating in activities and working with law enforcement to develop and implement programs and services to reduce criminal victimization of older citizens and improve their quality of life. The council will be hosting monthly seminars at the Christiansburg Recreation Center every third Tuesday of each month at 1:30 p.m. For additional information contact Kemvia at 382-6975 or Tammy at 382-2349, Ext 2003. LOCK BOX PROGRAM The lockbox program, available for older adults, provides emergency first responders a way to gain access into the home of participating residents to expedite access during a medical or other emergency. This program is sponsored by the TRIAD S.A.L.T. Council and implemented by the Christiansburg Police Department. Questions? Contact David Wall, CPD Crime Prevention Specialist, 382-3131. PROJECT LIFESAVER Project Lifesaver’s Protect and Locate Tracking System is designed to protect your loved one if they wander. The digital watch/transmitter has a portable receiver which notifies the caregiver that the set perimeter has been breached through GSM and SPS technologies. The instant notification provides immediate response times and a GPS location of the loved one. The program is useful to those suffering from Alzheimer’s, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Traumatic Brain Injuries, and Mental Dysfunctions. Questions? SHRED-A-THON Shredding sensitive documents is one way to reduce your risk of becoming an identity theft victim. Attend this free community shred sponsored by the Christiansburg/Montgomery County TRIAD event to keep your personal information out of the hands of crooks. No businesses, please. Do not bring stiff metal, plastic bags or other items that will jam the shredder. Please bring your documents in a box or tote, no plastic bags! Join us on Tues., Oct. 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center
