HAVE yourself a Merry Thatcham Christmas when the community gathers for the town’s festive lights switch-on. Bedecked in lights and decora- tions, The Broadway will once again become the town’s festive focal point from 5pm on Friday, December 7. On the day, there will be charity stalls offering a selection of games and competitions, plus steam engines, donkeys and prize draws. Some businesses will also be staging their own events and stay- ing open for longer on the night and there will be a treasure hunt around the town centre busi- nesses, with prizes on offer for children taking part. There will be a live outdoor broadcast with Kennet Radio and performances from Spurcroft Primary School, Kennet School and Kennet Amateur Theatrical Society, plus community carol singing lead by Jamie Read and St Mary’s Church choir. The big switch-on will be performed by town mayor Jan Cover at 7pm, after a few words Report by JOHN HERRING email john.herring@newburynews.co.uk twitter johnh_nwn
