National Correctional Officers and Employees Week

The Bell Tolls For Thee The 28 th Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony For Those Who Have Fallen

O n May 4, 2019, 30 brave men and women were honored at the 28 th Annual Wreath Laying Cer- emony at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. for their sacrifices in the line of duty. Of the 30, five passed away in 2018, while the remaining were honored from previous years. With their names etched in the Memorial walls along with over 700 corrections professionals who have died while on duty, their memory of true heroism will surely not be for- gotten. This solemn event was attended by the families of the fallen and corrections professionals from all over the country who all came to pay their respect and show the

love and honor they had for these men and women of corrections. With each toll of the bell and each rose placed on the memorial, another individual was added to the national monument, ensuring that these men and women would never be forgotten. To the corrections professionals serving our nation today, we would like to thank you for your work and dedication to your com- munities and correctional facilities. And let us all give a special commemoration to those who have lost their lives and for the loved ones they have left behind.
