Winter Newsletter 2016

OUR HISTORY In the early 1960’s a group of men from AIS Collieries established a social meeting outing of golf so they could meet as much as possible away from work. As the social meetings continued, soon developed trophy play around the different surrounding golf courses in Moss Vale, Nowra, Port Kembla and Minnamurra. With each round there were new members. Soon after the Australian Iron and Steel Company made an offer of land at Kembla Grange which could be used as a golf course. And so did the community pool its resources together for the mission ahead. With tractors borrowed from farmers they cleared the land full of long grasses, fences and old buildings. From this The Grange Golf Club grew and now stands as a land mark in the sporting circles of the Wollongong area. A few years later the colliery relinquished ownership to the members and it became The Grange Golf Club. In early 2000’s the Grange Directors identified that to remain a viable business amalgamation with a strong local club would be in there best interested. In 2006 we saw the amalgamation of Dapto Leagues Club with The Grange Golf Club. We are very proud of what is going to become of The Grange when the renovations are completed. The facilities that will be available to our members and visitors will be those of the best in the Illawarra and we look forward in taking this exciting journey with you.

The Grange Golf Club is under construction! The Grange has begun significant constructions to build a more sophisticated club house and exquisite function rooms. We thank all our members and visitors for their patience during this time. We know you are not going to be disappointed! After all the renovations are complete, our members and guests will have access to: • A brand new club house with a pro shop, amenities, bar and café • Brand new function rooms that can fit up to 200 guests • Beautiful new gardens and front entrance The Grange Golf Club is also excited to announce we are partnering with Troon Golf – a global golf association. Along with The Grange there are only two more Troon Golf Cours- es in NSW. We will be keeping you updated of the develop- ments with Troon and the benefits for our members and golf course. Design work is still continuing with the board allocation $500,000 annual towards course redevelopment. Final plans and exact timings are not yet finalised for the course.
