worldliness, things mentioned by the apostles in their letters to Christians – such as sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed. Truly, we must rid ourselves of those things that do not edify (i.e., those things that tear down our spiritual walk), such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language. As we learned in our last lesson, we truly have become the very saints of God, and are called to be ambassadors for Christ everywhere we go. Now we live to build up others, not tear them down or distract them in their love for Jesus. Rather, we are called to build each other up as we pray for, challenge, and encourage one another in the church, following our spiritual leaders as they guide us through their teaching and example. As God’s chosen people, we strive to love each other, and seek to cultivate new ways of living and thinking, learning how to live with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Above all else, our love for others must characterize our relation ships with each other. In so doing, we will come to please Christ in all things. The Edification We Seek Lesson 6 Bible Study Read the following Scriptures and answer briefly the questions associated with each biblical teaching. 1. The Story of God involves the work of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, as told through the Bible, the Holy Scriptures. As believers in Christ, we are the people of that Story – we think about it in our “theology,” sing and preach about it in our worship, are being formed by it in our discipleship, and tell others about it in our witness. Read the following Scriptures, look at Appendix 5, The Story of God: Our Sacred Roots , and answer the questions associated with each text below. Our Objective Foundation: the Sovereign Love of God a. John 3.15-18. What role did the Father play in the Story of creation’s salvation and rescue? b. 2 Cor. 5.18-21. What role did Jesus play in our salvation Story? c. Eph. 1.13-14. What role does the Spirit play in helping us apply God’s Story? d. 2 Timothy 3.15-17. How do the Scriptures help us understand God’s Story?
