Fight the Good Fight of Faith, English Edition

 • Fight the Good Fight of Faith: Playing Your Part in God’s Unfolding Drama

Eternal God, God and Father of my Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for placing me within the body of Christ. Thank you that I do not have to live my Christian life on my own, without the support of others who also love you, and who are seeking to please you. Thank you for the way you build up your people in the local church, and for giving to us leaders and pastors whose teaching and example help us know and do your will. Grant me grace to be patient with others, to learn from them, and to listen to their criticism and counsel. Help me to overcome any tendencies to separate myself from them, to hide or be apart from them. I need them if I am going to be what you want me to be, so give me courage to persevere with others, and always to gather with them, never shunning nor neglecting them. Teach me through my leaders, and encourage and challenge me through fellow believers. In doing so, I know that I will grow up to maturity in your Son. Thank you, Father, for the gift of your people. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen. At www.tumi.org/sacredroots , we have a section dedicated to additional written and video resources. Don L. Davis. Sacred Roots: A Primer on Retrieving the Great Tradition . Wichita, KS: The Urban Ministry Institute, 2010. In the next session, you will explore The Enemy We Fight including these topics: 1. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood. 2. Our enemy the devil works through the fallen world and the desires of the flesh. 3. Our enemy leads his minions to employ common schemes to discourage and distract us.

Scripture Memory

John 13.35

1. Find two mature Christians and ask them to share about their experience in getting guidance from God through the counsel of others in the church. Ask them what mistakes they have made by not getting advice from other believers. 2. If you have not already done so, determine within the next month to start attending a single church regularly, a place where you can begin to fellowship and decide if God wants you to become a member. Remember, you cannot be edified (or edify others) if you are not in a local church, under the authority of godly pastoral leadership.
