Explosion-proof torches In potentially explosive areas appropriately protected lamps must be used in order not to trigger an explosion, for example, from the spark when turning on the lamp. Therefore the ATEX directives define the following zones:

Ex For use in potentially explosive areas. ia|ib Protection class intrinsic safety. e Ignition protection: increased safety. IIx Gas group (IIA = propane, IIB = ethylene, IIC = acetylene/hydrogen). IIIx Dust group (IIIA = combustible suspended matter, IIIB = no conductive dust, IIIC = conductive dust). Tx Temperature class, specifies the maximum allowable surface temperature. (T6 = 85 °C, T5 = 100 °C,

Zone 0: Areas, in which continually or frequently and over a long time period explosion danger exists.

On each light there should be a code, which provides information about the application area: II Group II devices must not be used in mining. 1|2|3 Specifies the category, this corresponds to the zone +1. G|D Suitable for gases/vapours (G) or dust (D).

Zone 2: Areas where only rare and short explosion danger exists. Zone 1: Areas, in which occasionally explosion danger exists.

T4 = 135 °C, T3 = 200 °C, T2 = 300 °C, T1 = 450 °C)

Design: Certified gas-, dust- and waterproof safety lamp made of highly resilient and impact-resistant polycarbonate with clip, non-conductive. The rubberised rear switch for single-hand operation is hermetically sealed against the penetration of water and dust. Optimal illumination at close range and distances up to 35 m. There is also protection against short circuit and incorrectly inserted batteries. ATEX Zone 1, certified, II 2G Ex ib IIB T4 Gb, working temperature -20 °C to +40 °C . Supplied with 2 AAA/LR03 micro batteries.
