Many of 68 the biodefense assays were designed and tested over a period of time at least a decade ago when 69 available sequences were limited. Thanks to recent advances in next generation sequencing 70 technologies there is a sharp increase in the availability of whole genome sequences. Hence, 71 these assays have the potential to fail if evaluated against the currently available sequences 72 (Figure 1).
