The group traveled to Haiti with the goal of planting trees on donated land in Cabaret, Haiti. They were successfully planet 500 trees consisting of avocados, mangos, limes, cherries, coconuts a well as watermelons vines. The work didn’t stop there. CEHAH works at the intersection of agriculture, education and healthcare. One of CEHAH’s vision is a Haiti that is developed and is able to feed its hungry. Natty first joined CEHAH after she lost her mother in the 2010 earthquake that took over 250,000 lives. The need to help the people in Haiti quickly drew her to CEHAH because of their wonderful work and ethics. Since joining the organization, Natty has participated in many health fairs and back to school activities in Haiti; however, she is the most proud of the Plante

Safety Moment

Summer cleanup is well under way and with that floor work is upon us. Please take some time and remind your folks to work safely while getting the schools ready for fall. In the United States, 849 people died of work injuries caused by slips, trips, and falls in 2016, according to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics. According to the National Safety Council (NSC), approximately 25,000 slip, trip, and fall injuries occur daily in the Unites States. These injuries are the top cause of preventable deaths among people aged 65 to 85 and over, the NSC reports.

Each day ensure:

Your employees are properly trained on the tasks they are completing. They know chemicals they are working with through the SDS. Ensure they have the PPE needed to complete their tasks and they use it. Slip resistant shoes or overshoes whenever doing floor work. Gloves. Eye protection Safety glasses or goggles depending on the task.

Stop Think Act

In early May, the 300 person Maintenance team at Texas A&M University exceeded 60 days of injury free work, and to celebrate this achievement, Ronald Kleppel and several volunteers served a pizza lunch for all the Maintenance associates. Ronald commented, “Thank you Maintenance staff for working safe and maintaining a safe work environment. Safety is our #1 priority every day. Remember

to STOP and THINK before you ACT. If the small voice in your mind tells you that what you are doing is questionable, don’t do it without evaluating it. Ask yourself, is there a safer way to do what needs to be done?” As of July 5th, Maintenance is at 120 Days accident free and made plans for a Fajita lunch to celebrate this new milestone. Let the streak continue!

We want to hear from you. How do you promote a culture of safety at your account?

Grounds Tips for your Home: 1 Annuals should be pinched of faded flowers or, if necessary, you can even prune 20%. Hit with a liquid fertilizer and get stronger more vibrant blooms in two weeks. 2 Roses, keep a watchful eye on black spots and treat with a recommended fungicide, follow the label but early morning is the best time to apply. If you prune, disinfect your shears with each cut (10% bleach, 90% water) dip into water hold for a couple of seconds. 3 Dead of summer, it is OK to raise height on mower. Warm season grasses, ¼” cool season grasses ½” – this helps in reducing evaporation from soil, shades soil (cooling), and reduces stress on grass plant. It is extremely imperative that the blade on your mower is sharp this time of year for a number of reasons, a smaller cut on the plant is the biggest one.

It’s a artnership

When you support your customer and they support you in turn then you know you have truly built a partnership. Recently, the President of Texas A&M University at Texarkana invited the staff of SSC into her boardroom for an unexpected luncheon. SSC was commended for their work, dedication and how much progress had been made over the last 6 weeks in the midst of graduation and student move- out. They even paid specific

compliments to how efficient crews haven been for event coverage, cleanliness of campus grounds during Graduation, and the smoothness of removing and collection of trash when students moved out of the dorms. The SSC staff was especially delighted by the TV monitor set up with a group of “super heros” rushing towards you with “SSC” lettered on their costumes. Taking the time for that one little extra step goes a long way.

Happy Gardening! George Bernardon Regional VP of Grounds

Thank you Texas A&M University at Texarkana! We are proud to be part of your team.
