THE WORLD TREE’S WOE AND THE BLIGHT BELOW

GENRE: ACT/ADV PLATFORM: PS4 RELEASE: 07/10/15 MULTIPLAYER: YES

GENRE: RPG PLATFORM: PS4 RELEASE: 16/10/15 MULTIPLAYER: NO

The name’s Drake, Nathan Drake. Think Indiana Jones, changed enough to avoid being sued. Think all the greatest adventurers rolled into one exploratory human package who bears an uncanny resemblance to Nathan Fillion. Think of not one, but three classic action-adventures – just like Indy had (come on, that fourth one doesn’t count). Yes, all three single player campaigns of the already gorgeous PS3 classics have been given an incredible spit and polish, coming to the PS4 looking more stunning than ever. Not only do you nab three breathtaking games, you also gain access to the forthcoming beta of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End . Now THAT is treasure.

In Japan, the Dragon Quest RPG series is bigger than the fire-breathing beasties mentioned in the title. This release – already the biggest-selling PS4 game in its homeland – changes up the formula, mixing a healthy glob of classic Dynasty Warriors into the mix. The result? Amazing hack and slash action, taking on hordes of rampaging monsters both small and astoundingly large, from the incredibly cute slimes through to skeletons, cyclops, golems and more. Of course everybody was coexisting in peace, but a mysterious shockwave that swept through the city of Arba has made the monsters rage against mankind. It’s time to have a slash!

Whoa, we’re seeing triple – three Links! The king has sent a decree that a hero is required, but he’s received three job applications. Perhaps they’ll all come in handy though, for this is an emergency – the princess has been cursed to wear a hideous outfit that she can’t take off! There’s also some sort of prophecy that foresaw the arrival of three heroes. At any rate, it’s up to you and two other Links – be they via local Wi-Fi, online, or ones that you switch between in single player – to coordinate enough to conquer the forces responsible for this heinous crime against fashion... darlings.

Nintendo really seem to have a thing for tradies. Obviously Mario is their superstar tradesman, but now they’re offering all of us the chance to get into the whole bricks and mortar decorating game. Forget those boring old Sims and their boring old humanity, for here you get to design homes for the animalistic stars of Animal Crossing. It’s plushie heaven! Well, erm, except that they’re pixelated rather than fluffy. As well as attending to the whims of various villagers, a nifty little NFC reader/writer allows the scanning of amiibo cards to add more customers to your thriving business. Shh! Don’t tell the ATO...
