PART 2 – MEMBERSHIP

ELIGIBILITY

2.1

(1)

A person shall be eligible for membership:

(a)

if he or she is employed in professional, scientific, technical, managerial or such allied work in such organisations and industries as the GGCA Executive Committee shall from time to time determine; or

(b)

if he or she has ceased working while in membership due to retirement, redundancy or some other reason; or

(c)

if he or she falls within a category of persons which the GGCA Executive Committee has by resolution from time to time determined to be appropriate for acceptance into membership of the Union.

(2) If any question arises as to whether a person is eligible for membership within the meaning of this Rule, the question shall be decided by the GGCA Executive Committee whose decision shall be forthwith notified in writing to the person concerned. (3) If a person is declared ineligible for membership by the GGCA Executive Committee the written notification shall inform the person of their right of appeal under Appendix 1.

2.2

(1) A person being eligible for membership under Rule 2.1 shall become a member if:

(a)

he or she has delivered (whether by post or otherwise) a complete and signed application for membership on the Union’s official form to the GGCA National Secretary or other person authorised by the GGCA Executive Committee to receive it, accompanied by an appropriate signed authority for payment of the subscriptions; and membership has been approved by Union Headquarters, acting for the GGCA Executive Committee, having confirmed as far as possible that the applicant is eligible for membership in accordance with Rues 2.1(1) and 2.1(2).

(b)

2.3 Compliance with the requirements set out in the preceding paragraphs shall not confer membership upon any person who has at any time previously ceased to be a member on expulsion unless and until the GGCA Executive Committee has approved re-admission.
