COLLEGE OF FINE ARTS AND COMMUNICATION SEPTEMBER ISSUE FALL 2017
COMMUNICATION STUDIES [PG. 4]
ART AND DESIGN [PG. 2]
LETTER FROM THE DEAN DR. JOHN FLEMING
While the ensuing pages provide examples of accolades earned by faculty, students, and alumni in the individual academic units, I need to note my appreciation, gratitude, and congratulations to my colleagues across the university and across the college for an extraordinary accomplishment. Hispanic Outlook magazine recently recognized the Top 100 Colleges and Universities for Hispanics. Both the university and the college earned high marks. Texas State University ranked 13th for Bachelor degrees granted to Hispanics, 30th for Master’s degrees granted, and 31st in total Hispanic enrollment. While those results are exemplary, the College scored even higher, ranking 6th for Visual and Performing Arts Degrees granted to Hispanics, and 4th for Public Relations, Advertising, and Communication degrees. These numbers show that not only are we enrolling Hispanic students at a higher rate than the vast majority of universities, but those students are also earning their degrees at a higher rate than most other Hispanic Serving Institutions. It is yet another area where Texas State University and the College of Fine Arts and Communication are truly national leaders… And next month I’ll share with you a stunning statistic related to an item you can find on p.13 of this edition. Happy reading!
