Staying cool during the summer months is crucial for comfort and health. Here are twenty effective ways to beat the heat this summer: Submitted by Coleen Rodefer.

Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to maintain hydration. Use Fans: Position fans strategically to circulate air effectively in your living space. Take Cool Showers: A refreshing shower can quickly lower your body temperature. Wear Light Clothing: Opt for loose-fitting, light-colored clothes made from breathable fabrics like cotton. Close Curtains and Blinds: Keep direct sunlight out to reduce indoor temperatures. Eat Light: Consume smaller meals more frequently to avoid generating excess body heat during digestion. Use Cooling Towels: Dampen a towel with cold water and apply it to your neck or forehead. Stay in the Shade: Seek shade when outdoors to avoid direct sun exposure. Create Cross-Ventilation: Open windows on opposite sides of your home to encourage a breeze. Limit Outdoor Activity: Schedule outdoor activities during cooler parts of the day, like early morning or evening. Use a Spray Bottle: Mist yourself with water from a spray bottle for instant cooling. Utilize Cooling Gel Packs: Place gel packs or ice packs on pulse points (wrists, neck, ankles) to cool your body. Keep Your Feet Cool: Dip your feet in a bucket of cold water or use a foot bath. Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine: These can dehydrate you, making it harder to stay cool. Sleep Cool: Use lightweight bedding and consider using a cooling pillow. Stay Indoors During Heat Peaks: Especially during midday when the sun is hottest. Use Portable Air Conditioners or Swamp Coolers: If available, these can significantly lower indoor temperatures. Stay Informed: Check weather forecasts for heat advisories and plan accordingly. Exercise Smart: If you exercise outdoors, do it early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler. Stay Cool with Pets: Ensure pets have access to shade and plenty of water, and avoid leaving them in hot cars. These tips should help you stay cool and comfortable throughout the summer months!
