IIW Annual Report 2025
NWC GUIDANCE NOTES To assist a potential “NWC Lead Organisation” to do this, a series of Guidance Notes are being authored by Chris Smallbone, IIW Past President, and will be freely available by downloading from the IIW website:
https://iiwelding.org/iiw-jointothefuture/nwc-gn/
These Guidance Notes are based on his experiences, complemented by those of other people and organisations in the welding industry, and help in establishing the optimal NWC building blocks.
The first one, IIW NWC GN 5 Establishing a National Welding Capability (NWC)-NWC Guidance Note GN 5 Implementing the ‘Education, Training, Skills and Careers’ Building Block , published on 20 th June 2025, shows possible strategies on a Plan-on-a-Page. These strategies can be implemented, supported by appropriate references to examples of past experiences, best practices, sources of information, guidance documents etc, for possible use by the reader in action plans to achieve the NWC objectives. Besides links in the Guidance Note to many references, others are freely available in the IIW NWC Resource Centre . 50 POINT IIW NWC GN 5 ACTION PLAN
An action plan to promote the establishment of a national welding capability project including the implementation of IIW NWC GN 5 by countries has been launched. The fifty actions cover activities such as meetings with aid/donor agencies and other related organisations, the creation of an NWC education, training, qualification, certification, skills and careers model to introduce into a country, guidance on implementing the Plan-on-a-Page, webinars and virtual NWC workshops, continual building up of the IIW NWC Resource Centre, amongst others. People are encouraged and welcomed to suggest additional ideas and references to add value to this NWC building block.
