always, will play a leading role in advancing the cause of mankind into a future that will be remarkably different to today. At the same time it must be recognised that many countries that have membership of IIW have yet to receive the benefits of the technological gains that developed countries have achieved over the last 25 years. The implementation of these gains through technology diffusion has been one of the more commendable aspects of IIW’s contribution to the sharing of research over this period. The future engagement and encouragement of young welding professionals in research activities will be the source of the next generation of scientists that will serve the IIW Commissions, Study Groups and Select Committees well, keeping welding and joining at the forefront of advances of the human race and helping to prevent declines in the global wellbeing and environment.
