IIW welded art exhibition, 2021
WELDED ART PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION THE ARTISTIC SOUL OF WELDING
EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES
A key objective of this IIW 2021 Digital Collection Category was to inspire researchers and development engineers at universities and companies worldwide to use emerging joining technologies to create welded art exhibits. The IIW 2020 Digital Collection showcased examples of how additive manufacturing could do exactly this but unfortunately with the coronavirus Pandemic in 2020, major restrictions were placed on people’s ability to use such processes. We have however been fortunate to have two exhibits which are showcased in this Category. The exhibit “The Cutting Edge” created by a team of TWI experts coordinated by Stuart Page is an ambitious and thought provoking composite sword which features as many as 10 different welding and joining processes. Luigi Mistodie, Carmen Rusu and Marius Ivanov showcased “The Union Arch” by Liviu Mocan in their paper “Virtual Reality Technologies Applied in Metal Art” at the recent ASR International Conference “Welding 2021”in Resita, Romania on 22, 23 April 2021. It highlighted “Virtual prototyping” which allows a reduction in time and costs related to the exhibit’s creative development, while also improving the quality of the final exhibit.
