Commodore’s Comments: Bill Burkhardt
Hello Team and Members,
I want to extend a huge thank you to the board and to all of our members. Your collective efforts and hard work have made this year a tremendous success. The club is thriving because of you. As we look ahead, we are still seeking candidates to run for the board. If you or someone you know is interested in helping lead our club, please reach out to PC Pagel or PC McEvoy. Our club is all volunteer so it does not run without your help!! Mark your calendars for our Labor Day weekend General Membership meeting! We have a fantastic dinner and a great band on tap for Saturday night, and I hope to see everyone there for the celebration. Friendly reminders that dogs need to be on leashes and their poop is your poop so please clean up. We have had some concerns about smoking on the patio. Yes this is a designated smoking area, but all members should be able to enjoy the area as well. Please do not smoke during meal times and try to sit downwind from non-smokers when possible. Finally, a friendly reminder that we are all part of this wonderful community, and let's continue to treat each other with the kindness and respect that makes our club so special. See you around the club! Warmest Regards, Bill Burkhardt, Commodore
Vice Commodore Terry Steinmacher
We were fortunate once again to participate in the Dinghy Poker Run at NCYC, and we’d like to thank everyone involved for hosting such a great event. The weather may not have been perfect, but the fun and camaraderie more than made up for it.
Following our OD weekend, July 18th-20th, Kathy and I want to extend a big thank you to our hardworking team and everyone who came out to make it extra special. I think it’s safe to say a great time was had by all-though we’ll admit, we needed a couple of days to catch our breath afterward!
On a less fun note, we did run into a couple of issues with non-members not cleaning up after themselves after Friday night dinner. Just a reminder: if you invite friends or family, you MUST be there to SPONSOR them, and please let them know we don’t have table service, and everyone is expected to clean up their own area. Rant over. As for kid’s day what can I say but thank you to Shelby, her family, and the entire crew of volunteers for putting together such a wonderful event for the kids. I had an absolute blast in the dunk tank and loved seeing all the smiling faces around the island. I’m already looking forward to next year’s Kids Day and seeing how much better their aim and fastballs get. I know they are also looking forward to dunking the flag!

We are already well into August and it still shocks me how fast our season of summer can pass by.
My bicep surgery slowed us down, drastically reducing our boating this year. Sharon and I were sad to also miss two NCYC rendezvous because of it. Yet this event showed me clearly how blessed we are to have availability of rooms upstairs. Having “lived” up there a good deal of the summer it has given me a new appreciation for Director Bill Frederiksen and all the constant, varied, items he must deal with for us all. Thank you Bill. Although school will be returning complicating many of our lives there are still many activities left at NCYC. Try to make it a point to participate. Not only will you be supporting your club, but you will have the best times doing so. Having enjoyed most Friday night dinners put on by Chef Tom, his family, and team this summer I want to extend to them my heartfelt thank you! They truly care that we get quality products and good service. This being said, on more than one occasion, again this year, I was made aware of members or their guests not treating servers with respect. Even if a concern seems valid, remember that catering to us on an island and the way everyone arrives around the same time, it is not easy to accommodate us. Be kind!!! As I write this, I am preparing to pack more things than needed, so we can Finn over to the island tomorrow and stay through the weekend. Another weekend filled with events, entertainment , and camaraderie.
Get out, participate, enjoy all that NCYC has to offer.

Commodore’s Comments
Commodore, Bill Burkhardt
Short and Sweet this Month:
I can’t believe we are already meeting in July. Once again, the summer is flying by. I want to thank the board and membership for all of their efforts to make this first half of the year a great success.
A special thank you to our Fleet Captain’s Kim and Tony Sicluna and their team for an outstanding Rendezvous at St. Clair Harbor. Looking forward to the upcoming Poker Run and I hope to see everyone there.

Vice Commodore’s Comments
Vice Commodore, Terry Steinmacher
I hope the membership is enjoying the 2025 boating season. I want to take a moment to thank each of you for your continued participation and the support you’ve shown to both the club and our Commodore. Your involvement truly makes a difference. Don’t forget we’ve got a great lineup of events coming up! First is the Poker Run hosted by Christa Betts and team 7-12, a fun filled day of boating camaraderie. Then some of you will head to Ford Yacht Club 7/18-7/20 for our second NCYC Rendezvous, always a memorable time with our Commodore, Fleet and fellow members. And let’s not forget that yours truly and his team will be at NCYC hosting the JYC (Jefferson Yacht Club) Rendezvous. Let’s make them feel welcome and show them the hospitality we’re known for.
And last but not least should you observe anything that requires attention; we kindly ask that you bring it to our attention so that we may address it promptly and appropriately.

At this time, no major initiatives underway or scheduled for the clubhouse. Currently focusing on supporting weekday managers, weekend ODs, and addressing any issues they identify and facilitating regularly scheduled tasks and maintenance.
Since the previous meeting, some updates on work done for the clubhouse:
· The back kitchen freezer failed and has been repaired.
· The audio amplifiers that control the speaker system for the clubhouse and patio have been replaced.
NCYC Regular Meeting Minutes July 10, 2025 Page 6 of 11
· A bidet has been installed in the handicap bathroom.
· A loose pipe coupling was identified and addressed in the septic system. This may reduce the “false alarms” that have been triggering recently and a new wifi access point for the harbor has been purchased (but is not yet installed). The intent is to improve coverage specific to B and A docks. Finally, often getting work done for the clubhouse requires vendors and contractors to visit the island. I’d like to thank the weekday managers and their teams for supporting getting folks on the island, doing work on the island, and being the smart hands when needed to provide remote support.

Harbor & Grounds
John O’Leary
Good day from Harbor & Grounds.
Where did the time go. We are at the halfway point of the boating season!!
After an assessment of the wells and docks we have identified and prioritized some safety initiatives. It is apparent that there needs to be a yearly maintenance and replacement plan for pilings. Given the extraordinary investment and improvement this year on battle hip row, we are starting with the first replacement of aging pilings. It was clear to me during the visit by the Pride of Michigan, that there are damaged and deteriorating pilings out there and our largest boats are moored there. This dock also takes the brunt of the ice flow, so we need to protect the sea wall, so we’ve set a budget for annual maintenance at least through next year over some of the more aesthetic or social thoughts we originally targeted.
Lighting for long term solution is the next urgent planning initiative and weekly aesthetic, and general maintenance will continue.
There have been many members sharing their wishes and concerns and the H&G team remains appreciative and ready to serve the membership.
Regards, Your H&G crew.

The beer foaming situation seems to be under control as of now since Ted changed out the CO2 tanks to different ones with nitro. I have to make sure every OD is aware of how to use new system correctly. When we took back all 20 empty kegs a couple weeks ago there was several kegs half full which is a lot of waste. I think many may have thought that because the kegs were foaming so bad they just changed them when in fact that was not the case. New system just like everything has learning curves. Sales are down from last year about $5000. I have tried to be very careful with my inventory and what I order. I have only placed 5 beer orders, 6 liquor orders and 5 wine orders since we opened. Keep in mind I have to order two kegs from each distributor at a time to make minimum and of course had one that sent one too many by mistake. No worries I am sure it will get drank. Also, in regard to the JYC incoming rendezvous I just need to know the times I am setting the party prices to start and end that weekend? Last year and with ABYA we only went one tier up from our regular pricing.

II. OLD BUSINESS
Update On Selling old Finn 1:
P/C Brian Fringer
It is not sold yet. It is currently covered, and it is insured.
Policy Updates:
P/C Rick Romatz and Melissa Winkler
Fire Pit Use and Safety: P/C Rick Romatz proposed a revised policy for fire pit use, restricting it to board-approved and NCYC sponsored events, to maintain board control and avoid placing responsibility on OD’s. V/C Terry Stein suggested adding a requirement for a properly sized fire extinguisher or hose and water on site for safety. Commodore Bill Burkhardt agreed to look into installing a pump and hose reel system for water access at the fire pit. The board decided that the specific safety equipment details do not need to be in the policy itself, as they can be controlled separately. Dock and Walkway Access: P/C Rick Romatz introduced a revised policy for dock and walkway access, specifying a 36 to 40-inch clear travel way on all docks and walkways, and reiterating rules against hoses running across docks. He also included language regarding no docking on the inside of A dock for more than two to three boats to ensure clear turning space for boats. John O’Leary recommended a 40-inch minimum for clear travel ways to accommodate wagons. Tents on Docks: John O’Leary expressed a strong stance against tents on docks, citing safety concerns about them being impaled or causing damage due to wind, and requested that tents be specifically prohibited as "accessories" in the policy. The board generally agreed with John’s points about tents. Private Events and Security Deposits: The board reviewed the policy on private events, agreeing that the responsible member should be charged for cleanup. The discussion included the idea of requiring a security deposit upfront for events, similar to what is done for outside parties. It was decided to continue the practice of a security deposit for non-members and to maintain the current system where the OD can approve kitchen use for members, making them responsible for cleanup. Club Property on Docks: A discussion arose about adding language to the policy to prevent club property, such as chairs or picnic tables, from being removed from the mainland or taken to the docks, citing past instances of damage or loss. It was agreed that this should be added to the policy to ensure clear guidelines.
Motion: A Motion was made by P/C Rick Romatz to approve the Policy Updates for Safety to go to the Policy Committee after verbiage has been corrected. Second: P/C Brian Fringer.

Discussion; Commodore Bill Burkhardt raised a motion to allow five boats from Ford Yacht Club to access the North Channel, despite the current policy of 20 boats and the expected total exceeding 23 boats with JYC's existing count. Concerns were raised about exceeding policy limits for boat numbers and size, potentially impacting dock space, though William Burkhardt confirmed communication with Ford Yacht Club about potentially using "battleship row" for larger vessels to mitigate this.
