Home & Lifestyle Autumn 2018

Home Lifestyle Central Coast

Editor’s Note... Dear Readers,

As we age we become more conscious of our fitness levels and are more in tune with our bodies needs. We all hope to be fit and maintain our health so that we can remain independent as we get older. Research has shown that a diet rich in plant based foods, oily fish, nuts, grains, seeds and extra virgin olive oil to name a few foods, can benefit our minds and bodies. We have included good examples of the foods you need to consume to stay healthy along with gentle exercise. We never know what can happen each day and everyone should know how to do CPR. Please take a moment to learn the resuscitation process by observing our step by step chart as every second counts when it comes to helping to save a life. As we are now preparing for the cooler months we are fortunate to have so many choices to fill our leisure time, as we are so close to fabulous beaches and are surrounded by lush forests and attractive lakes. We have a number of picturesque towns and villages in our region we can visit offering an array of lovely shops to browse old and new, as well as a wide range of shopping centres, independent retailers, boutique and specialty stores. Those looking for something special might prefer the fresh produce, handcrafted gifts, vintage homewares and clothing available at our many weekly, monthly and seasonal local markets. Sample the great variety of cuisines at our local restaurants, pubs & clubs and don’t forget if you like a handcrafted local ale we have a selection of wineries and breweries close by. Or head to some of the best cafe’s that are very popular with locals and visitors alike. Go to a Cinema and take in a movie or treat the kids to a game of ten-pin bowling or ice-skating at the local rink. We are surrounded by stunning scenery and fresh coastal air, take advantage of the diverse and beautiful landscape, the Central Coast offers many opportunities to get in touch with nature. Feeling energetic? Enjoy a game of golf or for a different view of the area try hiring a kayak or paddle board to explore the various waterways or take a ferry ride. Plenty of things to do that are fun for the whole family. Enjoy Autumn...

Warm Regards,

Laughter is strong medicine S ure, it’s fun to share a good laugh. But did you know it can actually improve your health? It’s true: laughter is strong medicine. It draws people together in ways that trigger healthy physical and emotional changes in the body. Laughter strengthens your immune system, boosts mood, diminishes pain, and protects you from the damaging effects of stress. As children, we used to laugh hundreds of times a day, but as adults life tends to be more serious and laughter more infrequent. By seeking out more opportunities for humour and laughter, you can improve your emotional health, strengthen your relationships, find greater happiness—and even add years to your life. Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress, pain, and conflict. Nothing works faster or more dependably to bring your mind and body back into balance than a good laugh. Humour lightens your burdens, inspires hopes, connects you to others, and keeps you grounded, focused, and alert. It also helps you to release anger and be more forgiving. With so much power to heal and renew, the ability to laugh easily and frequently is a tremendous resource for surmounting problems, enhancing your relationships, and supporting both physical and emotional health. More than just a respite from sadness and pain, laughter gives you the courage and strength to find new sources of meaning and hope. Even in the most difficult of times, a laugh–or even simply a smile–can go a long way toward making you feel better. And laughter really is contagious—just hearing laughter primes your brain and readies you to smile and join in the fun.
