IT'S TIMES LIKE THESE ...

As the world now turns its focus to COVID-19, it was only a few months ago Australia was struggling to overcome bushfires that affected our nation, with many requests for boxes and donated space coming from all walks of life; charities as well as individuals, schools and communities. It's times like these you see community spirit at its best. KSS aided anyone in need of charity space to store donated goods and provided as many donated boxes as needed.

W ildlife Emergency Response, Sutherland Shire and Beyond is a place where people in the Shire share campaigns and initiatives that support wildlife in crisis. One community event coordinated in conjunction with the NSW Wildlife Council saw volunteers gather to make pouches and wraps, nests, hutches and water stations to be sent directly to the 22 licenced rescue groups and their volunteers. 17 of these groups were directly in the fire zones and many individual carers lost their homes and had extensive damage to property, however still remained caring for and rehabilitating wildlife. These items provided much needed support and supplies to help rehabilitate injured and rescued wildlife. Ruth Friedman from Wildlife Emergency Response contacted Mike at our Kirrawee centre asking for donated boxes which we gladly gave. KSS also helped out with donated space for items to be stored before being delivered.

R ural Firefighters from south-east Queensland stations including Woodhill, Greenbank, Tamborine, Mount Tamborine and Birnum, were greeted by very welcome Care Packs put together by community volunteers earlier this year. Two Jimboomba residents, Michelle Galeazzi and Helen McElroy, spearheaded a push for donations, which were sorted into Care Packs and distributed to volunteers on the front line. Michelle contacted KSS Browns Plains to ask for donated boxes to pack donated goods in. Michelle looks after 55 Brigades in the local area. The Care Packs were handed out to volunteers at more than 50 south-east Queensland Rural Fire Stations.
