Description The city has been considering implementing a Railway Quiet Zone along the Union Pacific corridor within Shakopee. The city performed a Quiet Zone study in January 2016. The City submitted federal funding requests in 2025 in the amount of $1,500,000 and state funding in the amount of $3,000,000 for construction of the downtown quiet zone improvements. A 50% local cost share is required for the requested State funds. The project is subject to receipt of state and federal funding.

Justification The downtown quiet zone would improve the quality of life for the immediate areas residents and businesses due to the train horn nuisance.
