Beyond the limits of urban landscape

Offscapes: in our daily experience of our surroundings and the landscape, Offscapes is everything found at the limits of our collective visual percep- tion; that which is moved towards or even beyond those limits; everything which becomes or remains marginal, subconscious, remote, distant, sub- liminal, unexpressed. Offscapes: nella nostra esperienza abituale del territorio e del paesaggio, è tutto ciò che si trova ai margini della nostra percezione visiva collettiva; ciò che viene spostato verso i margini oppure oltre di essi; tutto ciò che resta marginale, inconscio, rimosso, subliminale, inespresso. Offscapes are the remnants of the means of production, the ruins of daily life, the hard core of consumerism consumed, where what we have con- sumed was produced, where the lives of those who produced it were consumed. Offscapes sono i ruderi dell’apparato produttivo, la rovina del quotidiano, l’hard core del consumismo consumato, dove è stato prodotto ciò che abbiamo consumato, dove si è consumata la vita di chi ha prodotto. Offscapes is that which remains beyond the panorama of our functioning (producing/consuming): the sites of production, often lying at the limits of our perception but nevertheless occupying our lives, after they have ceased to be and have completely disappeared from view. Offscapes è ciò che resta fuori dal panorama del nostro funzionare (produrre/consumare): sono i luoghi della produzione, spesso marginali nei nostri sguardi e che pure occupano le nostre vite, quando hanno smesso di essere tali e sono del tutto scomparsi dall’orizzonte del visibile.

Offscapes is all that remains beneath the shiny surface of consumption. Offscapes è tutto ciò che resta sotto la superficie lucida del consumo.
