when i want to look at our love, i buy a ticket to the zoo i’m not nasty, but am learning how to be i still like the animals in the stalls of your eyes i smile at them as they stretch, i still smile i toss a crumpled paper, fully inscribed, and watch them play see how they fetch i take it and throw it again good boy, i say if i had a child, i would take him sundays to the fence and we would, together, feed the beasts unshelled peanuts but don’t stick your fingers through the bars, i would say be careful, they bite now i feed them by myself, feeding and feeding
