ASLI ERDOĞAN The Stone Building and Other Places (novel excerpt) Aslı Erdoğan (born in Istanbul, 1967) is an award- winning author, journalist and human rights activist. She has published novels, collections of short stories and poetic prose, and selections from her political essays. As a journalist, she has covered controversial topics such as state violence, discrimination, and human rights. The Stone Building and Other Places , her second work to be translated into English, has won Turkey’s Sait Faik Short Story Award and was a finalist for the 2019 PEN Translation Prize. The New York Times called her one of the “11 Powerful Women We Met Around the World in 2017”. She currently faces trial in Turkey on political charges and lives in self-imposed exile in Germany.

NAZLI KARABIYIKOGLU Jürek and Qan (novel excerpt)

Nazli Karabiyikoglu is aTurkish author and feminist activist, now residing full-time in Georgia. She has a BS in Business Administration from Istanbul University, and MA in Turkish Language and Literature fromBogazici University. She has five published books in Turkish. She works as a literary editor and writes for periodicals variously, and she has won a half-dozen literary awards.
