When it was ten metres up, it stopped for a moment, looked all about, shook out the last sheets of paper, then suddenly disappeared. The next moment all that could be seen was a faint beam of light on the sky. The deep pit it left behind, with its fringe of torn-up paving stones, would remain in the city centre for decades to come.
