About the Authors

Tomas Espedal (b. 1961 in Bergen, Norway) began his literary career in 1988 with the novel Env ill flukt av parfymer . He is a full-time writer who occasionally teaches on the side. He has written over 15 novels and has been awarded with various prizes including the 1991 Best P2/Book Club Novel Competition Prize, the 2006 Nordic Council Literature Prize, and the 2011 Brage Prize. Selim Özdoğan (b. 1971 in Cologne-Mülheim, Germany) is a German writer with Turkish origins. He grew up bilingually and studied English, philosophy, and ethnology at university for some time before stopping to become a full-time author. Since then, he’s written over twenty novels and has been awarded various prizes including the 2010 German Science Fiction Prize for his novel Zwischen zwei Träumen and the 2017 Hohenems Literature Prize for his novel Geschchte ohne Papier .

Anne Weber (b. 1964 in Offenbach am Main, Germany) is a German-French author and translator. She has lived in Paris since 1983 where she studied and worked with various editors. She began her literary career in French and then translated her own novel into German. Now, she self-translates all of her work between the two languages. In 2020, she was awarded the German Book Prize for her novel Annette, ein Heldinnenepos .

Simone Buccholz (b. 1972 in Hanau, Germany) is a full-time author. Her first novel, Der Trick is tzu atmen erschien, appeared in 2003, and in 2008, she began the first book of the Chastity Riley Series. This series has won her various prizes from the Crime Cologne Award in 2016 to the 2019 German Crime Prize. In 2022, she was elected to be on the board of the newly founded PEN Berlin.

Anke Laufer (b. 1965 in Villingen-Schwenningen, Germany) studied ethnology and politics at Albert Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg and later received her doctorate from the same university in 1998. She currently works as a writer and freelance editor and project coordinator in the publishing industry. She is a founding member of the authors’ group Die LiteRatten and an authors’ association called Dreiländereck.

Katja Oskamp (b. 1970 in Leipzig, Germany) grew up in Berlin. She was a dramaturge for some time before studying at the German Literature Institute from 1999 to 2002. She published her first short story collection in 2003, Halbschwimmer . Since then, she has published various novels and short story collections, including her latest Marzhan, mon amour .
