in our language, the heart is a thing: it, the heart. the yenish people don’t have a word for heart at all. they call it “soori,” just as they say “soori” for love, god, and the penis. it rubs me the wrong way to make a thing of the heart, this powerexuding lump of flesh, to cutify this primal machine. at any rate this machine was strong enough to defy all psychiatric attempts, all deadly threats. my heart is a woman, identical with me.
