THE ROOFLESS LIBRARY

There is a famous photograph shot in London in 1940, showing the main hall of a library whose roof collapsed during the blitz. The top of the walls looks torn, the floor is covered in debris. Atop this image lies another, overlapping it in such a way that you could easily mistake it for a photomontage: three men browse the shelves as if nothing had happened, scanning the titles on the spines of the books left miraculously intact.
