TE16 Turkish Delight

Altay Öktem She was ravishing, a mythical beauty. Her long, pitch black hair poured down her sheer white dress. Sun shone on her moist lips and reflected far beyond at every angle. Some beams travelled towards the Black Sea, some sat on shore around Harem, and some disappeared in the infinite blues above. The ones that I cared about were the ones going down -almost at a forty-five- degree angle from the tower, as we were about to take off.

“Think again, Seniha!”

She covered her shoulders with her pearl white wings. “I don’t have to. I’ve been

thinking for the last twenty years.” I held her hand. She told me that I had to trust her. All I had to do was close my eyes and let myself go, with her .

I shut my eyes real tight.

A moment later, I felt like a feather floating in air. The breeze was a proper wind now. I couldn’t tell where we were heading to—or how high we were—because I didn’t dare to open my eyes. I assumed we were flying towards Üsküdar. I didn’t have the slightest clue about whether we were going to make it to the shore, or to crash down into the cold waters. If it wasn’t for the warm hand inside my palm, the amount of fear I felt would’ve been able to killed me. There I was, choosing to trust Seniha. Or her wings…
