TE23 Double Feature
Fatherland (non-fiction excerpt) Anne Weber Translated from German by Neil Blackadder
NOTES:
Sanderling is the nickname Weber gives to the man whose life she explores in her book: her great-grandfather Florens Christian Rang (1864-1924), a Prussian theologian, pastor, jurist, civil servant, and writer. She calls him Sanderling after the small wading bird “I’ve often seen on the French coast, running back and forth following the surf.” Johannes Hesekiel (1835-1918) was also a Protestant cleric, a high-ranking administrator in the church in Prussia.
