Hike the spectacular trails of the new Patagonia Park, a vast slice of Patagonia that has been preserved and donated to the people of Chile by Tompkins Conservation. Still largely undiscovered, this enormous new national park has been hailed as “South America’s Yellowstone” for its epic landscapes and resurgent native wildlife, including puma, flamingo, and vast herds of guanaco. We also explore mountain-ringed Lago General Carrera, Chile’s second largest lake, where we hike below the face of massive glaciers and kayak in the surreal Marble Caverns. Support one of the world’s greatest conservation efforts in Chile’s pristine Aysén region! Days 1-4 Balmaceda / Patagonia Park Stunning Patagonian peaks, glorious trails to high lakes, endless beech forests, hundreds of guanacos on the grasslands—this is Patagonia Park. From the elegant park lodge in Valle Chacabuco, we hike across grasslands to ancient forests laced with mountain streams, often sighting condors and guanacos. The park’s pioneering “re-wilding” efforts have included the largest-ever grassland restoration in Chile, resulting in burgeoning populations of native wildlife. Former Chilean President Michelle

Bachelet and Tompkins Conservation joined forces to create five new national parks in Chile, adding more than 10 million acres of new national parklands and fulfilling the vision of Doug and Kris Tompkins for a “Great Route of National Parks” stretching to Tierra del Fuego. Days 5-7 Lago General Carrera / Glacier Wall Hike The remote Aysén region is filled with wonders. From our lakeside lodge on Lago General Carrerra, with its intensely blue waters, we’ll hike through lenga forests on a nearby peak to find ancient marine fossils and enjoy vistas across snow-capped mountains. A boat journey and a gorgeous hike lead us below the towering wall of Leones Glacier. Days 8-9 Coyhaique / Balmaceda By kayak, we explore the Marble Caverns, a natural wonder of fantastic caves, pillars, and tunnels accessible only by boat on Lago General Carrera. We’ll paddle right into these marvelous geological formations, the result of 6,000 years of extraordinary carving by the lake’s waters. Overnight in Coyhaique and depart on Day 9 via Balmaceda.
