Hiking the Faroe Islands JOURNEY TO EUROPE’S BEST-KEPT SECRET

Tucked away between Norway and Iceland, the Faroes are remote, stunning, and superb for hiking. In this dramatic archipelago of otherworldly landscapes, tiny seaside villages, and a welcoming culture, we hike along aery ridge trails, above narrow fjords, and to seacliffs where seabirds nest in the thousands. As we explore, we’ll visit homes, see how Faroese wool is made, and enjoy a round of beers at the islands’ oldest brewery. The seafood here is hook-to-table fresh, and we’ll savor meals in the company of knitters, chefs, and artists, and learn about the traditional music and dancing that is embedded in Faroese culture. Days 1-2 Vágar Island / Mykines Island On Vágar, a lakeside trail brings us to the stupendous cliffs at Traelanípa for a surreal vista of a lake seemingly suspended in the sky, then further to the cascade of Bøsdalafossur, thundering over a cliff to the sea. We explore the Old Town, with its turf-roofed buildings, and enjoy dinner in a family home with ingredients fresh from the farm—and of course, local Faroese schnapps. Depart on Day 8 via Sørvágur.
