Royal Rajasthan ACROSS INDIA’S LEGENDARY DESERT KINGDOM
Traditional desert tribes, camels painted with henna, medieval walled cities, and airy Mughal palaces of marble and onyx—these are the captivating sights of Rajasthan. Our journey into this colorful world includes a camel ride and sunset dune walk amid the herders’ camps at the
Mughal city. Based at our tented camp near Ranthambore National Park, we’ll head out to look for Royal Bengal tigers. Days 5-6 Jaipur The walled quarter of Jaipur is an 18th century city of pink sandstone and a showcase for elegant Rajasthani craftsmanship. Our explorations include the ornate Palace of the Winds and the Amber Fort, a 16th century Rajput stronghold. Our world-class hotel, the Rambagh Palace, former home of the Maharaja of Jaipur, gives us a taste of royal life. Days 7-8 Pushkar or Nagaur Fair Rajasthan’s flamboyant camel and cattle fairs are a whirlwind of color, song, and dance. We enter the festival a unique way—by camel!—and enjoy sunset walks through the dunes among the traders and camel camps. Families attend from far and wide, dressed in dazzling Rajasthani festival attire. Our overnights are at a comfortable tented camp or hotel. Days 9-11 Jodhpur We roam Jodhpur’s ancient lanes and spice and textile markets, and at the massive 15th century Mehrangarh Fort, a walled city of interconnected palaces, we’ll see the heritage of Rajasthan on a princely scale. Depart on Day 11 via Delhi, or join our special Villages of Rajasthan Extension. ON OUR WEBSITE TREASURES OF SOUTH INDIA Ancient spice ports and legendary cuisine. Jan 8-21, 2020; Jan 8-21, 2021.
