DAYS 1-8 DUBLIN TO THE FAROE ISLANDS Explore Dublin’s city center and Trinity College’s famed library housing the Book of Kells and other treasures. Embark and set sail for Northern Ireland, visiting the World Heritage Site of
the Giant’s Causeway, then heading to Portree, your base for exploring the castles of the Isle of Skye—Eilean Donan and massive Dunvegan Castle.Orkney has a wealth of prehistoric ruins including Skara Brae, the best-preserved Neolithic village in Northern Europe, and the cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds. In the Shetland Islands, enjoy an excursion to Jarlshof, an archaeological site with layers of ruins dating back 5,000 years. Cruise to the remote Faroe Islands and explore sites around Torshavn, the capital since the 9th century, when the Vikings founded a settlement here.The Faroes are also a magnet for birds migrating over the North Atlantic, and you’ll view thousands of puffins, fulmars, and guillemots that gather along the cliffs near Vestmanna. DAYS 9-14 EXPLORING ICELAND Highlights of Iceland include Vatnajökull National Park, with its ice caps, waterfalls, glaciers, canyons, craters, volcanoes, and iceberg-dotted Jökulsárlón Lagoon. Picturesque Seydisfjordur is the setting for a fascinating walk with a local guide, and in Akureyri, “the capital of the north,” tour the city’s brightly painted wooden houses and cobbled streets. Seabird sanctuaries abound in Iceland—Grimsey has one of the largest puffin colonies in Iceland, and the small island of Vigur includes colonies of arctic terns, puffins, black guillemots, and eider ducks.
