Wilderness Travel Cultural Cruise Collection for 2022-23
Coastal Wilds of Tasmania ABOARD THE CORAL DISCOVERER On this exciting voyage, discover Tasmania’s breathtaking national parks, from the perfect crescent of Wineglass Bay and the dramatic pink granite peaks of Freycinet to Tasman National Park, where seals, dolphins, and albatross gather below sheer 1,000-foot-high cliffs. With an expert Expedition Team, you’ll gain an insider’s perspective while hiking at Maria Island National Park and the rugged Fluted Cape of Bruny Island. Conditions permitting, you’ll spend two days exploring the untouched Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area at Port Davey and Bathurst Harbour. Normally only accessible by a seven-day hike or light aircraft, this region is undoubtedly one of the most pristine and beautiful landscapes on Earth.
DAYS 1-4 HOBART TO PORT DAVEY Cruise to the Woodbridge and Huron rivers where you’ll learn about the process of sheep-cheese-making and enjoy a taste of a “ewenique” sheep’s whey vodka at the family-run Grandvewe Cheeses company. A marine reserve and part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, Port Davey is Tasmania untouched and a great place to explore on foot. You’ll disembark the ship’s tender to explore the “narrows” and take a guided hike of Balmoral Hill or the Mount Beattie Track. The unforgettable experience of kayaking in Bathurst Harbour is another wonderful excursion. Note: the daily activities are flexible and subject to weather conditions. DAYS 5-8 BRUNY ISLAND TO FREYCINET NATIONAL PARK Take in the rugged beauty of the Fluted Cape on a walk along sheer coastal cliffs. Watch fur seals lounging on the rocks on the Ile des Phoques, then walk among the historic ruins, secluded bays, and rugged cliffs of Maria Island National Park, whose endemic denizens include Forester kangaroos, Bennett’s wallabies, and wombats. A hike in Freycinet National Park brings you to breathtaking Wineglass Bay. DAYS 9-11 TASMAN NATIONAL PARK TO HOBART In Tasman National Park, view 1,000-foot-high sea cliffs and monumental sea stacks, with the possibility of seeing Australian fur seals “hauling out” on the rocky shores. At the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Port Arthur Historic Site, a former penal colony, you’ll get an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour and enjoy Tasmanian wines and appetizers at a private reception. Return to Hobart and disembark on Day 11.
