LAKE WINNEBAGO dnr.wi.gov/lakes

Lake Winnebago is a 131,939-acre lake located in Fond du Lac, Calumet, and Winnebago counties. The structure of Lake Winnebago is quite unusual. Although it covers 220 square miles, it is quite shallow. At its deepest, the lake drops to a mere 21 feet. Walleye flourish in the Lake Winnebago system. Perch fishing is also outstanding. But we can’t forget about the sturgeon! The lake sturgeon population here is rated as one of the finest in the country. Lake Winnebago is a haven for boating, fishing, waterskiing, stand-up paddleboarding, and windsurfing. In the winter, Lake Winnebago turns into a mini city on the ice during the sturgeon spearing season and also becomes a great place for ice fishing, snowmobiling, and ice kiting. Bring the family out for fun at Fond du Lac’s 400-acre Lakeside Park, on Lake Winnebago, one of the country’s largest inland lakes. Walk-up lighthouse, picnic area, shelters, pavilion, playground, splash pad, zip line, petting zoo, ball diamonds, marina, rides, boat launch ramps, handicapped-accessible fishing platforms, new boat dock on Oven Island, Lakeside Park segment of the Fond du Lac Loop, and kayak and pedal- boat rentals. Also includes a fountain, large playground equipment area with an accessible playground, concessions, full- service marinas, and gazebos. Visitors can take nostalgic rides on the miniature train and enjoy the antique carousel. The park glows with thousands of holiday lights and animated displays, including holiday music every December. LIGHTHOUSE AND OBSERVATION DECK Lakeside Park, N end of Main Street Lighthouse Drive Enjoy a magnificent view from the 40-foot-high observation deck of the lighthouse! Climb your way to the top for a spectacular view of Lakeside Park and Lake Winnebago. The city’s signature attraction and most photographed structure in town. Built in 1933 during the Great Depression, the bottom 10 feet consists of a flagstone covered base, while the upper section of the tower is of frame construction. A wooden staircase attached to the interior walls of the lighthouse winds up through the tower, permitting visitors to reach the observation deck, where an amazing view of Lakeside Park awaits you. The lighthouse is decorated and spotlighted for the holidays every December. Self-guided tours May–Oct 15, weather permitting. 8am–dusk. Free. LAKESIDE PARK 555 N.
