Austin-Travis County EMS’ ROLE ATCEMS Medics participated in the first of many sessions this year for the Dell Medical School - UT Austin-Health Sciences Summer Camp on Monday. Students had the opportunity to view the ambulance, AmBus and one of our motorcycles. In addition the students visualized the equipment that we carry and did walk through of the unit and Ambus. ATCEMS personnel also conducted an indoor lecture providing detailed information about Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services and our role in the community. ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE In the same simulation labs where medical and nursing students train, camp participants learn basic clinical skills such as administering IVs, performing intubations, drawing blood and taking vital signs. Students also engage in a range of laboratory science, discover how technology can aid modern medicine and earn CPR/AED certification. Each year, Dell Med offers several summer day camps for Central Texas youth. During the camps, middle and high school students enjoy hands-on science experiments and interact with health professionals from various fields. Providing these experiences is just one way the Dell Med team encourages members of the local community to pursue careers that contribute to health transformation. INSPIRING FUTURE HEALTH LEADERS During the summer months middle or high school student have the unique opportunity to explore health sciences at UT Austin and Dell Medical School.
