CHANGING LIVES AND MAKING FRIENDS

During SXSW 2013, Commander Kevin Parker had the occasion to treat a local musician performing that year. Their interaction was such that Commander Parker’s patient sought him out as SXSW 2014 approached. Since then, they have stayed in contact and touch base at least once a year at SXSW. Commander Parker says, “I was fortunate enough to promote and now oversee Special Events and the EMS preparation and response during the event. Each year during the nightly briefings, my interaction with Nathan guides the objectives I give to my colleagues – be nice, be respectful, and take good care of people.” “Yesterday, I had the occasion to break bread with Nathan at Amaya’s restaurant and talk about the way our brief interaction in 2013 has influenced our lives in the past 6 years. What an awesome opportunity for me to say thank you to him! Thank you Nathan for trusting that the care I would provide would solve your problem that night. Thank you for taking the time to find me. Thank you for staying in contact with me over the years to provide those occasional reminders of what “true north” really is. “

Service is the reason we do what we do. What an awesome way to see how our service impacts our community.

“ This guy is a champ. I can't even tell you the admiration I have for him. He's a true hero and one of the reasons I have such great respect for first responders everywhere. Thanks for doing what you do. It definitely makes a difference .” Matthew H.
