Cold fireplaces in warm living spaces cause many problems: ƒ ƒ Condensation or water drop development on the combustion air tube ƒ ƒ Condensation or water drop development on underneath or on the back of the fireplace This could cause oxidation on the combustion air tube and on the fireplace and also damages on the bottom.

Problem 1: Conventional isolation flaps – especially at free standing stoves – generally are inside of the house. The part until the flap cools down – in this case into the living space. Problem 2: Conventional isolation flaps only have one flap. This flap can also cool down. Problem 3: Conventional isolation flaps are built in a metal tube. The metal tube loses warmth and cold enters the room – also if the flap is closed.

New houses are built more and more tightly. This causes that fireplaces has to use combustion air from the outside. In this case it is clever to install the combustion air system lockable.² You can avoid that the fireplace cools down if it is not running. Using conventional flaps can counteract only limited cooling down the fireplace.
