GUIDE TOWINTER BEER

ESB (Bitter Ale) Developed in England, “extra-special bitters” are full-bodied beers with an earthy, roasted-malt base, dark colour and a crisp, slightly bitter finish. They are usually a little higher in alcohol – about 6%- and have some great citrus and toffee flavours as well. ESBs are a great match for chicken pot pie or fish and chips.

Dark Ales Smooth, creamy dark ale is a slightly sweeter version of standards pale ale, but with added body and flavour and a darker colour ranging from amber to very dark brown. You’ll get the crispness of a pale ale with added flavour and a fuller body from roasted malt. Dark ale is lighter than a stout, but it still has that nice depth; if you prefer a lighter lager in the summertime, this winterized version will be the beer for you. These darker brews stand up to richer dishes like from slow-cooked roasts or creamy mac and cheese.
