ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

line, “Mrs Wilberforce, we are artists”. Louisa Wilberforce, the demure, batty old lady was played with plenty of grit by Jacque Hamilton. Jacque’s voice and pitch were so right for the character: this was another entertaining performance. As the audience was so close, I did feel that perhaps a more naturalistic wig would have aided the character presentation. The direction extracted the comedy in true “Ealing” style. It was the farce, and slapstick, that was not there. This was lacking, especially in the scenes with the criminals in the Professor’s room. This production was not an imitation of the original; it was vibrantly acted and entertaining.
