ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season
UPS delivery man, Bob. There was a very relaxed, charming, smooth portrayal of this character by Robert Derry. It was totally believable that he could charm the birds from the trees or in this case the women. In contrast with the character of Tony, Bob did everything right and totally disarmed even the hardest of patients during the role play. However, he had his own secrets and was married. I think most of us wanted to boo him at that point. The bow section at the end was also a good touch as it reminded me of the end of American 1980’s comedy programmes such as Soap. The set designed and painted by Lee McGregor, Ian Wilkinson, Sophie Hall and team was attractive and functional. The sloping window for the apartment with the vista behind it gave depth and looked very good when backlit. The décor was clinical enough with the odd splashes of colour to indicate a place of work and yet there were just enough props sourced by Anne Burns, Bruce Taylor and Rebecca Pope to also suggest that this is also a home. I did wonder at the beginning if this play, billed as a comedy, would work. I think that on the whole it does and there are certainly very funny
