THE SOUND OF MUSIC Director: Robert Margolis Musical Director: Dave Chapman Choreographer: Jean Johnson Dukinfield AO&DS Familiar, comfortable, an old friend; you only have to hear the music and it makes you smile. ‘The Sound of Music’ is at the top of the list of classic musicals, but should you tamper with it you will be excommunicated, banished from the land. Nonsense, a new interpretation is long overdue; I do not want to see tap dancing Nuns but a retelling for a today audience. The latest TV creation went someway to breaking the mould.
The director for this production had a firm hand on the tiller. Not losing any of the shows charm he managed to keep it traditional, wrapped in a fresh presentation. Musically the standard was high throughout, especially the team of choral Nuns. They were given movement in keeping with their characters allowing more expression. All the other choreography was creatively integrated into the concept giving an extra dramatic dimension. From the arches of the abbey to the Kaltzberg music festival, Prosceneium’s scenery, inventive lighting design and excellent costumes by “The Boyz” produced a visual kaleidoscope creating a rich canvas for
