ACT Reviews 2022-2023 Season

a triumph of a final scene and was directed and acted so powerfully. Costumes were perfect for each and every character, really effectively recreating the early 1940s and wartime attire. The wardrobe department of Jacqui Mooney and Shirley Watson is to be congratulated. Equally, the sound and light team of Kris Connell and Ryan Clegg were impeccable – I especially liked the use of music from the time to set the scene. Together with the set design and building team of Alison Bell, Martin Cottam, Pearce Darnell

Walsh, and others, all those involved in the crew ensured the audience was well and truly brought into this small village and all the action of the play. This production certainly had its challenges, including on the night when I visited when there were a number of interruptions from the audience (phones and noise). The actors continued seemingly unaffected, with true professionalism, which really impressed me. Another challenge when portraying a well-known and much-loved story there is the potential for the audience to feel disappointed that the characters were not exactly how they envisaged. This is a lot to carry on the director's and actors' shoulders, especially when such key roles are played by younger actors. However, every single person involved more than lived up to the challenge and everyone is to be congratulated. I know the large audiences will not have left disappointed. Thank you for another wonderful evening of theatre and I am very much looking forward to my next visit.
